Mission Statement

The mission of the Bayiby Cultural Arts Academy is to establish an educational center focused on preserving and sharing the artistic and cultural traditions of West Africa. Our diverse educational programs are intended for the benefit, enlightenment, and enjoyment of West Africans and the international community.

Vision

Our vision is to not only provide a fully immersive program for anyone around the world to travel to West Africa and study local artistic, musical, and cultural traditions but also to enliven the same historical and cultural knowledge within the youth of West Africa.

About The Academy

This academy is inspired by the experiences of Fode 'Lavia' Camara traveling around the world performing and teaching as well as bringing foreign students to Guinea to study with him, immersed in his home culture.  The school will have two programs available:  Our study abroad cultural immersion program and our cultural arts studies program for locals.
The first program, the study abroad cultural immersion program, is currently running and hosted Fode 'Lavia' Camara and his team.  Once the school is built, this program will have it's own designated location for students to take classes, study and practice.  While this program is geared toward foreign students, some locals have also attended and participated in these classes.  See the information below to learn more about studying abroad with Fode 'Lavia' Camara.
The second program, cultural art studies for locals, will begin once the school is open.  This program will be available for children and adults who wish to attend a formal program where they can study and learn their the culture of their heritage from their nation's greatest teachers and talent.  Many of the great teachers from Guinea have had the blessing of success and the opportunity to travel the world performing and sharing their knowledge.  Our program will give these great masters a place and program through which they can come back home and share with their community the same skills and knowledge that afforded them the opportunity to travel abroad.
The cultural arts studies program will be made available at a very affordable cost to local students.  This program will be primarily funded by profits made from the study abroad program, donations, and grants.  It is vital to all of us involved in the academy to ensure that those who are a part of this culture have the same access to study it as those of us who have had the treat to study under their greatest teachers in the comfort of our own home countries.

Post 17: Beginning Construction

Our construction team has been working very hard since we bought all the supplies at the beginning of the year. In just a few weeks time, the wall foundation was laid and over half of the wall was constructed. Fode A. and his team have used up all the supplies we could afford to purchase […]

Post 16: Blessing the Land

Ibrahima Dakino Camara also undertook the task of purchasing the all white sacrificial ram for the blessing of the land. Being a part of those prayers and the blessing was powerful. As a foreigner to the experience of animal sacrifice, it was extremely emotional. The anticipation of that moment was intense. I wasn’t sure how […]
